Position Summary:

The Adams State School of Nursing is  seeking energetic and enthusiastic Nursing Faculty candidates who should demonstrate that they possess:

-commitment to student-centered instruction, 
-passion for mentoring and teaching a diverse student population, 
-commitment to furthering the university’s mission of Inclusive Excellence, 
-potential to maintain a research record that is commensurate with level of experience, and
-a vision for expanding programs and other initiatives.

The successful candidate must be a broadly trained nurse who demonstrates that they are equity-minded practitioners with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse faculty, staff, and students within the nursing department and across campus. 

The department offers access to a mentoring program, professional travel opportunities, and summer teaching stipends for faculty. 

Full-Time Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Nursing

Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)

  • Teaching 12 credit hours per fall and spring semesters.

  • Advise students in nursing degree requirements. 

  • Design and implement theoretical, clinical, simulation or laboratory instruction plus evaluate and revise course curriculum. 

  • Evaluate student achievement of course objectives related to nursing knowledge and practice. 

  • Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, & revision of the Nursing Education Program. 

  • Provide oversight and evaluation of Associate Nursing Instructional Personnel. 

  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and revision of student policies. 

  • Participate in college and departmental services. 

Final course assignments will depend upon department needs as well as the preferences of the successful candidate. We are primarily an institution focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is
comprised of 12 credit-hours each semester.

This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.

The School of Nursing shares the mission of Adams State University. In addition, the mission of the Adams State University’s School of Nursing is to educate the next generation of nurse leaders. This will include cultural inclusivity, educational diversity, and service to evolving populations. This education will prepare individuals for successful integration into the profession of nursing. Students will be provided with an excellent theory-led and experiential learning environment, in an evidence-based educational program with a focus on professional nursing standards, patient safety, cultural diversity, community service and rural/community health care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing required.       
  • Two years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience. 
  • Two years of full-time teaching experience in a nursing program or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • Hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado, or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Registered Nurse license. 
  • Successful record of recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, staff and students, including individuals from diverse and multicultural backgrounds 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills or relevant abilities in teaching Hispanic or first-generation students.
  • A strong focus on teaching
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with, the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University’s student population, including students with different abilities (e.g. physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded, inclusive practices within the classroom
  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or DNP preferred. 
  • Ability or experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.
  • Ability or experience in the recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.
  • Commitment to professional development, scholarship, and service to the university and community.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges as a part of one's orientation towards teaching.
  • Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data, and theory and that leverages students' unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths.
  • Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegiality with employees, students, and the community.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $59,316 - $71,388 commensurate with experience and education.
