Position Summary:

Reporting to the Library Director, the Outreach and Engagement Librarian serves as the head of the Library's outreach programing and is responsible for developing and implementing activities which promote library resources and services. Librarian Engagement responsibilities include providing library sessions for first year students through first year seminar and new student orientation, needs assessment, creating and maintaining online research guides, and library liaison responsibilities. Outreach responsibilities include but are not limited to giving presentations; organizing events; designing publications, exhibits, and displays; and communicating with library staff and Adams State campus as a whole. The Outreach and Engagement Librarian will have reference duties, including supervising reference desk student workers and providing reference services to faculty, staff, students, and the general public.

Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)

  • Leads the development of outreach efforts to engage the campus community.
  • Leads first-year seminar and new student orientation sessions in collaboration with library staff.
  • Organizes events/programs which advocate library resources and services and communicates with library staff, campus divisions, and departments promoting those events/programs.
  • Designs publication and outreach materials, such as posters, handouts, social media posts etc., which promote library services and resources.
  • Supervises and Schedules Reference Desk Students Navigators.
  • Provides reference services in person and online, with some nights and/or weekends required.
  • Acts as a liaison to one or more academic departments.
  • Participates in collection development.
  • Serves on campus, regional, and state committees.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support departmental goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited MLS degree or equivalent at time of hire.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with events planning, outreach, engagement or other related areas.
  • Experience creating materials and publication materials for outreach and promotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic Library Experience
  • Experience scheduling and supervising. 
  • Experience working with diverse populations or in rural settings
  • Ability or experience working with historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.

Salary and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49,848-$52,872 commensurate with experience and education.
