Job Summary:
Responsible for leading the design, installation, and improvement of production systems requiring the integration of people, equipment and materials for Adams Thermal Systems products. Requires extensive interaction with Product Engineering, Quality and Operations.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating, implementing, maintaining and improving capable production processes, methods and sequences to achieve quality, throughput and cost targets. This includes working with Production Associates to optimize productivity through efficient, ergonomic and safe workstation designs, man-machine interfaces and assembly line layouts for current and new products.
- Provide day to day support for the manufacturing of products to insure meeting customer requirements including the troubleshooting of production problems throughout the plant using structured problem-solving tools.
- Develop capital budgets for departments, including budgets for process improvement, capacity increases, and quality improvements.
- Project management of new equipment including evaluation, design specification, selection, justification (AFE’s), acquisition, installation, proofing and operation for manufacturing.
- Participate in Simultaneous Engineering to assure manufacturability and cost effectiveness. May lead Process FMEA’s and participate in Design FMEA’s with cross-functional groups including Quality, Product Engineering, Customer Centers, Logistics, and Suppliers.
- Actively involved in ISO/TS16949 processes including Control Plans, PPAP’s, Process Capability Studies (Cpk), Statistical Process Controls, Gauging and Testing Techniques.
- Provides product costing and cost estimates through the development, maintenance, and application of the production standards system utilizing work measurement techniques such as time/motion studies, work content studies, etc. Analyze production costs to identify and implement improvement efforts.
- Leads, supports and encourages improvement projects (Kaizen) in conjunction with Maintenance, Manufacturing and Quality through individual and team development.
- Proposes and implements cost reduction, work flow, and quality improvement programs for manufacturing processes supportive of ATS cost, quality, delivery, and safety goals.
- Responsible for continuous improvement of plant wide material handling, packaging and product protection and material flow at workstations. Develop and implement overall material handling and product protection strategies.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of a productivity and efficiency monitoring system. Analyze these metrics to identify and initiate improvement efforts.
- Assist in the development, performance and optimization of preventative maintenance activities systems.
- Develop and implement equipment utilization programs and capacity planning to increase line productivity. Analyze and manage capacity of equipment including line balancing in relation to sales demand.
- Coordinates with product engineering personnel and external tool suppliers to develop production tooling in the best interest of ATS with regard to quality and price.
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation as required by the various Operating procedures such as Manufacturing Bills of Material, Labor Routings, Manufacturing Process Documentation, etc.
- Understand, implement, and maintain ATS/TQM principles and train department members to develop effective use of principles.
- Remains current in new manufacturing engineering technology, new manufacturing techniques and new equipment. Recommends new approaches where feasible.
- Train others and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization to implement changes.
- Demonstrates successful Project Management techniques and abilities by combining Engineering skills and people skills.
Requirements:
- BS Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 2 to 3 years related experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in manufacturing processes, production tooling, fixtures, work station design, line layout and balancing, OSHA and safety regulations, and hazardous materials management.
- Experience with machining, stamping, welding, brazing, powder painting, PLC’s or automation is a plus.
- Basic PC skills, CAD, Drafting
Special Requirements:
- Reading policies, procedures, blueprints, routing, SPC charts, etc.
- Writing policies, procedures, SPC data, cost justifications project status reports, etc.
- Compute numbers and typical formulas (manually, by calculator and by computer).
- Operate tools and equipment such as hydraulic, mechanical pneumatic and electric shop tools and equipment.
- Interact with outside suppliers, customers, and co-workers in a positive and constructive manner.
