Adda Clevenger School is an independent TK-8 school offering an accelerated academic curriculum plus a fully integrated performing arts program for San Francisco Bay Area school children. Our constructivist educational program is inspired by the child-centric experientialist philosophy of John Dewey. Our school day consists of a dual curriculum of arts and academics, and students from as early as TK move through subject matter with different teachers on a period rotation throughout the day.
The Adda Clevenger School is excited to open a second San Francisco campus starting Fall 2025 and we are beginning the search for a full or part time Theater Arts Teacher for primary and middle school grades K-8.
The Theater Arts Teacher is responsible for instructing students in acting techniques, developing their performance skills, and guiding them through the process of creating theatrical productions, including selecting plays, casting roles, directing rehearsals, and overseeing technical aspects like set design, lighting, and sound, all while fostering creativity, communication, and confidence in their students; they may also incorporate playwriting and other forms of dramatic expression into their curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Theater Arts Teacher:
•Choosing appropriate plays for student abilities, casting roles, leading rehearsals, providing constructive feedback to actors, and overseeing the technical aspects of a production
•Assessing student performances based on criteria like character interpretation, vocal delivery, physical expression, and stage presence
•Creating a positive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and self-expression through drama activities and exercises
•Working with colleagues in other departments like art, music, and dance to enhance production quality
•Regularly updating parents on student progress and involving them in theatrical productions
•Planning, evaluating, and revising curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction as part of an ongoing process of improvement
•Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
•Evaluating and grading students' class performance
•Providing substitute support for other teachers as requested
•Assuming responsibility for specified duties which include lunch and playground duty and dismissal and arrival duties
•Attending various school functions throughout the year including performing arts programs, field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and evening events
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
