What You Will Achieve

LOCATION & POLICY ON REMOTE WORK
This position will work out of our Watertown, Massachusetts Headquarters with an opportunity to work on a hybrid schedule. Our beautiful office space has free, ample parking with a complimentary shuttle from Harvard Square, and is on multiple bus lines. The cost of public transit is covered by Addgene for those onsite 4 days a week or more.
The Role:
Addgene is a leader in plasmid, viral and antibody repository library curation, production and global distribution services. We are a self-sustaining nonprofit generating revenues over $26M with a headcount of just over 100 employees. This is a new role for the organization, and an exciting opportunity to help expand our mission by driving initiatives as Addgene's plasmid products industry expert. We are primed to launch new services to advance our customers’ research objectives, and support further advancement of scientific research. The Product Director, Plasmids is the central orchestrator of ensuring prioritization, timelines, and new initiatives are met according to our annual operational plan. The Product Director will be the central planner and communicator across all functions that touch the plasmid business, deploying project management and communication skills to ensure the business is managed according to the goals and timeline of the annual operating plan. In this position, you will establish a core cross-functional team to monitor and innovate the plasmid business and services. You will interface with all functional leaders, such as lab operations, scientific and customer support, scientific curation, sales and marketing, business development and web product services to ensure each function is coordinating and communicating project objectives to deliver business improvements and/or onboard new products and services to meet business goals. The Product Director will embrace our mission to accelerate research and discovery by improving access to useful research materials and information. This role will report to the VP, Global Business Strategy.

To Succeed in this Role, You Will:
- Establish a product management function, and organize a cross-functional team to monitor and address objectives and make decisions/recommendation for the plasmid business and new products and services within the plasmid business
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop annual operating objectives and help coordinate implementation of those objectives across functions
- Provide executive-level communications, including project plans, gaant charts, executive team updates to ensure the organization is informed of progress, risks and recommended solutions to overcome barriers to achieving goals
- Operationalize new initiatives through cross-functional sub-teams when needed
- Support business development initiatives such as creating key-account goals and objectives, or large depositor opportunities
- Ensure all elements of the business are considered and communicated in team decisions or recommendations, such as lab workflows, cost impacts, dependencies, contractual obligations, marketing initiatives, etc
- Create a forum and track team monitoring of sales and distributions via monthly oversight meetings, reports, monthly catalog demand, customer feedback, distributor performance, opportunities to drive organizational performance
- 8 years’ experience in a contract manufacturing, commercial-stage drug development or related scientific organization
- Demonstrated experience leading product/project management function
- In-depth understanding of molecular biology, specifically plasmid creation and use in research laboratories
- Data driven decision making skills, and ability to present findings to leadership effectively
- Demonstrated successful collaboration with scientific operations within organizations; strong science communicator able to competently carry on a technical conversation with product users
- Proven experience in understanding the importance of SOPS, financial controls (audit preparation, annual budget planning, setting up P/Os), and P&L management of $10-$15M
- Demonstrated experience with cross-functional senior leadership communications and peer-to-peer influence without direct supervision resulting in positive organizational change
- Proficient in project management tools
- Skilled in agenda setting, prioritization, ensuring proper team representation, meeting efficiency, documentation of decision-making
- Advanced degree in synthetic biology/molecular biology, and business degree or background
