Medical Care Coordinator / Medical Assistant
ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED is required. College Degree is preferred.
Minimum of 1-year healthcare experience; prefer 2 years of healthcare experience.
Medical Assistant Certification (CMA or RMA) required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Medical Care Coordinator/Medical Assistant will support the Medical Director in coordinating patient care and managing the medical provider team. This role also includes administrative support for addiction medicine fellows, medical residents, and students.
Medical Assistant Duties:
Perform routine clinical tasks to support medical staff, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting during procedures.
Administer injections, medications, and vaccines as directed by the physician.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests.
Conduct EKGs and other diagnostic tests as required.
Maintain accurate patient records, including documentation in electronic health records (EHR).
Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
Provide patient education on medication instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Perform prior authorizations with third-party payers for medication-assisted therapies (MAT) in treating substance use disorders.
Ensure compliance with CFR 42 Part 2 (Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records) and HIPAA regulations.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Participate in program planning across the continuum of care, including discharge planning for MAT services.
Facilitate follow-up on commercial insurance status for MAT.
Coordinate injectable MAT preparations with the medical team.
Manage shipments and storage of injectable MAT, including co-pay and deductible management.
Collaborate with the discharge planning team to ensure seamless MAT transitions from inpatient to outpatient settings.
Liaise with specialty pharmacies for ordering injectable MAT.
Process daily patient lists, submitting MAT treatment plans to insurance companies for approval.
Follow up on commercial insurance approvals daily.
Perform other duties as assigned.
