High School Diploma and one (1) year experience in billing/collections in a healthcare setting. Must be able to type accurately at 50 wpm. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have good organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to see at 20/40 corrected in each eye and hear (hearing aid acceptable).
- Must be able to continuously sit for approximately 7hrs. per 8-hour shift.
- If recovering, two year of continuous verifiable abstinence.
General Responsibilities:
Billing and collection of all claims (insurance & private pay).
Know and abide by the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records", and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act." This position has unrestricted access to patient identifying information.
Essential Functions:
- Insurance verification.
- Accurately utilize company database to key pertinent information regarding guarantors, insurance and financials.
- Follow up with patients and their family members regarding insurance certifications and financials until all tasks are completed.
- Maintain collection notes in the computer system documenting all billing and collections activity according to policies.
- Review and roll facility census as well as be able to post and accurately batch charges to patient’s accounts.
- Maintain the patient’s financial folder with copies of the face sheet, admission forms, verification and pertinent releases and authorizations.
- Filing, pulling closed folder accounts and reconciling closed folders to send to storage off site.
- Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients and prospective clients.
- Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, must not appear impaired or disoriented, but rather must present coherent and articulate speech, kept appearance, alert, oriented, and responsive to patients' needs and concerns.
- Must be able to work in constant state of alertness as to perform the job in a safe manner.
- Regular attendance.
