Duties Description The Addictions Counselor 1 serves as a member of the Addiction Treatment Center’s (ATC’s) multidisciplinary treatment team and works under the supervision of a higher-level Addictions Counselor or Licensed Master Social Worker performing duties related to the care and counseling of clients. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: • Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.• Functions as a primary counselor, managing all facets of clinical services to assigned patients caseload.• Provides individual and group brief therapy utilizing EBPs and facilitates a variety of clinical activities. • Works with co-occurring Mental Health, Gambling Disorders and Criminal Justice mandated patients. • Presents/conducts lectures, videos, psycho-educational groups, and specialty groups.• Intervenes when patients are in crisis and utilizes clinical skills to problem solve.• Interviews patients to complete various assessments; performs Psycho-Social Assessment as part of individual treatment plan development; monitors patients' compliance with Treatment Goals.• Completes forms, documents, and records efficiently, including discharge planning, while adhering to all applicable confidentiality regulations.• Provides or coordinates all facets of patients’ care. • Seek consultation with senior staff as needed.• Participates in activities to improve patient care and facility operations.• Completes patient records and monitors patient compliance with treatment goals.• Participates in meal preparation and distribution.• Uses a computer proficiently for patient documentation and other required communication.• Transports patients as needed using NYS vehicle.• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Currently employed as an Addictions Counselor 1 ~OR~ Current Registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), CASAC Level 2, CASAC-Advanced Counselor, or CASAC Master Counselor in New York State ~OR~ eligible for transfer. Applicants must possess current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State. For permanent, non-competitive appointment under the Civil Service Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, current registration as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in NYS.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. If a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
