Summary:
The Activity Director plays a vital role in the lives of our elderly residents residing at Addie Meedom House. He/She must bring a special combination of energy, enthusiasm, positive motivation, and self direction to the community. They are an integral part of the team to help ensure resident involvement and satisfaction. They will maintain an activity program which is staffed and equipped to encourage the participation of each resident according to their individual needs, interests, and abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Basic computer knowledge and typing skills.
- Ability to develop activity calendars and newsletters.
- Have effective verbal and written communications skills.
- have a good organizational skills.
- Must be comfortable working with the general public.
- Must be able to keep accurate and detailed records of resident interest and activity participation.
- Present oneself in an orderly and professional manner.
- Willingness to adapt to the changing demand of this position.
- Oversee the activity program budget. Order supplies for activities, keep receipts, and submit receipts to management.
- Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record and be insurable to drive the community's bus. Develop a working knowledge of proper operation of the community's bus, including tie-downs, lifts, and steps.
- Must be able to transfer residents as needed with appropriate assistance or lifting device.
- Report to work as scheduled. Be dependable and punctual.
- Develop a good relationship with resident population and their families.
- Plan and implement activities inside facility during weekdays and weekends; outside facility at least two times per month; and one-on-one activities with residents.
- Plan facility programs- parties, potluck and other celebration with approval of management.
- Notify residents of activities and assist and encourage them to attend.
- Facilitate a weekly shopping trip.
- Other duties as required from time to time to ensure good continuity of service.
Qualifications:
- Long-term care experience and knowledge of home and community care
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience in event planning and recreational therapy
- Familiarity with Alzheimer's and dementia care
- Ability to assist with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Valid driver's license and proficiency in computer skills, including typing
- Background in senior care and working with individuals with disabilities
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
