Title: Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the site's EHS programs at the Pittsburgh, PA facility. This role ensures full compliance with environmental regulations, occupational health standards, and safety initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. The EHS Manager serves as a key liaison between plant operations, contractors, regulatory agencies, and leadership to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance at the site.
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and processes to maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
- Lead and cultivate a strong safety culture across the plant, including oversight of contractors and third-party workers on-site.
- Collaborate with plant leadership to identify EHS risks, recommend corrective actions, and implement solutions to improve performance and reduce incidents.
- Guide the development and implementation of EHS procedures, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), incident investigation protocols, hazard communication, and ergonomic assessments.
- Facilitate safety meetings, JSA reviews, and employee training sessions related to health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and drive preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
- Maintain and submit all required regulatory reports, including OSHA-required documentation.
- Initiate and manage workers’ compensation claims through resolution in coordination with HR and relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in capital project reviews to ensure environmental, safety, and health factors are fully considered.
- Support emergency response planning, including organizing and conducting annual drills and training.
- Oversee the site’s Exposure Reduction Program (ERP) and other risk mitigation initiatives.
- Monitor and maintain environmental compliance programs, including air and water permits, mining regulations, and waste management.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of environmental reports to local, state, and federal agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA).
- Coordinate with regional EHS teams to ensure regulatory alignment and process consistency across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in EHS management within a production or industrial setting.
- Proven knowledge of environmental and occupational safety regulations and compliance strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and highly organized with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in chemicals production, raw material manufacturing, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and compliance programs.
- Certified or experienced in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Technical knowledge in industrial hygiene and environmental permitting (air, water, waste).
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
