Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant with 2-3 years of experience to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will have experience with general ledger accounting, sales tax compliance, and a demonstrated ability to solve complex accounting issues. Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Assist in maintaining and reconciling the general ledger by ensuring accurate posting of all transactions and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting principles.
- Journal Entries: Prepare and post monthly journal entries for various accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the general ledger.
- Sales Tax Compliance: Calculate, prepare, and file sales tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Ensure sales tax liabilities are properly recorded and reconciled.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and resolve discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, providing analysis of variances and supporting documentation.
- Internal Controls: Ensure internal controls are followed for accurate and compliant financial reporting and tax filings.
- Problem-Solving: Actively identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records and sales tax reporting, addressing issues with a methodical, solutions-oriented approach.
- Audit Support: Assist in preparing for audits by gathering necessary documentation and responding to audit inquiries related to general ledger and sales tax.
- Ad-Hoc Projects: Support the accounting team with special projects and process improvements to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 2-3 years of experience in accounting, with a solid understanding of general ledger accounting and sales tax compliance.
- Educational Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Sales Tax Knowledge: Strong understanding of sales tax regulations and experience in calculating, reporting, and filing sales tax returns.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent ability to identify accounting discrepancies, investigate their root causes, and develop solutions to resolve them.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail in handling general ledger transactions, reconciliations, and sales tax calculations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal teams, vendors, and tax authorities.
- Organizational Skills: Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines while ensuring accurate and timely completion of responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with accounting for multi-state sales tax.
- Experience with audit preparation and support.
- Knowledge of accounting best practices and the ability to apply them in daily tasks.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
