Position Summary:
We are seeking a Controls Designer to support the development and delivery of advanced control systems for automated equipment. The primary purpose of this position is to design and integrate control systems that meet the specific needs of our customers, particularly within the Custom Automation product lines. This includes hardware selection, system layout, power distribution, and the integration of safety, pneumatics, and hydraulics systems. The Controls Designer will work closely with engineering teams to develop and implement control strategies, ensuring systems meet all specifications and industry standards. Applicants must have experience designing control systems in automation or robotics environments, with a strong knowledge of PLC programming, motion control, and system integration. The ideal candidate will also contribute to troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning control systems during installation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop control systems for automated equipment, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate control systems with other components.
- Implement control strategies, including hardware selection, panel layouts, and system optimization.
- Integrate safety systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and power distribution into control systems.
- Test, troubleshoot, and debug systems during installation and commissioning to meet performance standards.
- Ensure compliance with industry and electrical safety regulations.
- Create detailed documentation such as wiring diagrams and control manuals.
- Coordinate project timelines and deliverables with internal teams.
- Assist with cost estimates, technical proposals, and project management.
- Provide post-installation support, including troubleshooting and system optimization.
- Stay updated on new technologies and industry trends.
- Support junior engineers and maintain accurate project records.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- Minimum Education Level: High School Diploma
- Years of Experience Required: 3 years of experience in control systems design or related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for schematic design, panel layouts, and circuit design
- Creating and editing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
Qualifications Desired:
- Familiar with PLC’s and HMI’s
- Experience in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting automated control systems.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards, including UL and IEC
- Relevant Certifications: None required, but industry-specific certifications (e.g., PLC programming) are a plus.
