General Description Of Duties: Assist clients in their family homes or independent living environment in acquiring skills and/or completing activities of daily living. May include assistance with any or all of the following:
- Meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, laundry, personal care; money management skills, banking, budgeting, bill payment, identification and value of currency denominations;
- Use and navigation of public transportation, riding the bus, train, and /or arranging for transportation; basic educational skills, reading, mathematics; home and community safety skills, self-determination and self advocacy skills, etc.
- Assist and teach program participants in obtaining necessary information or support in filling out and responding to any paperwork and/or attending any appointments deemed necessary to maintain their support system (i.e. DD Waiver annual renewal, Income Support Division, Social Security Administration, Section 8 Housing, HUD Housing contracts, rental leases, public transportation passes, Income Taxes, legal actions and court appearances etc.)
- Will work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary to meet client needs and schedules.
Education and Training: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus. Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, with internal and external customers of Adelante. Have the ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, supervisors and co-workers.
Other Requirements: Must be able to pass background/fingerprint investigation and pre-employment drug screening. Must possess a valid NM driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance. Must have own reliable transportation and agency insurable driving record. Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift as well as support 70-100 lbs. occasionally.
