Responsibilities:
Instructional, School, and People Leadership- Conduct daily teacher observations and provide real-time feedback to continuously improve scholar experience and achievement;
- Build own and direct reports' instructional knowledge of Indiana math/English/social studies/science standards, content, and methods;
- Oversee faculty and staff assigned by the Principal, including recruitment, evaluation, retention, and dismissal and hold primary responsibility for staffing coverages, absences/time-off requests, professional development, staff observations, curriculum development, and staff communication;
- Ensure that all staff, regardless of functional teams or assignment, are providing well-managed and rigorous daily lessons, reasonable and effective daily assignments, and regular and productive interventions both during and after the school day;
- Foster commitment among staff to the development and fulfillment of the school’s mission and objectives;
- Hold teachers accountable for meeting a high bar for scholar performance including requirements for special education accommodations, IEP modifications, English Language Development, and ILP modifications in partnership with the Director(s) of Special Education and Multilingual Learners.
- Fully participate in professional learning with the Instructional Leadership Team, Chief Academic Team, and Operations Team as assigned by the principal and/or CEO
- Develop own and teachers’ knowledge of best practices in instructional methods and coaches teachers on how to match particular strategies to gaps in scholar mastery
- Develop teachers to provide rigorous and high-quality instruction and support the Principal in planning, implementing, and enabling systems of tiered response
- Lead data-driven instruction. Coach teachers to determine how data aligns with end-of-year goals
- May lead or coach others who lead department/content/grade-level meetings that focus on planning for, and norming on, instruction and culture, practicing instructional strategies, and progress monitoring the department/content/grade level
- Foster commitment among staff to the development and fulfillment of the school’s mission and objectives;
- Serve as an active member of the Instructional Leadership Team and other teams throughout the school year (Multi-Tiered System of Supports Team, etc.)
- Manage Grade Level Chair(s) as assigned by the Principal
- Analyze school-wide data to design responsive scholar interventions
- Work with Director, Data and Technology and Principal to closely monitor weekly gradebooks for possible inflation, incompletion, or misalignment and ensure quick action for alignment
- Track other useful academic data (e.g. assignment completion rates); communicate progress to scholars, teachers and families
School Culture and Operations- Model joyful and rigorous staff and scholar culture and manage school-wide character development and culture systems
- Monitor student well-being survey data and work with cross-functional teams (grade levels, other Assistant Principals, Operations Team, Culture Team, etc.) to craft strategies to improve student experience
- Analyze student behavior data alongside Principal, Director of Culture, and Culture Coordinators to create support plans for grade levels, teachers, students, etc.
- Support teachers in scholar support and behavior intervention systems to ensure limited time is spent on reactive scholar discipline
- In coordination with the Director, School Operations, supports parts of the daily school operations (e.g. arrival/dismissal, lunch/recess, school trips)
- Acts as the first Leadership Team contact for assigned-scholar intervention and proactive family engagement; determine next steps for issues that are above the teacher/grade level chair while keeping communication lines open with Principal and other school leaders
- Communicate regularly with families, ensuring they are kept involved with and held accountable for their scholar’s performance, and correspond about school policies, trips, and events;
- Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.
Professional Learning- Coordinate and manage creative, inspiring professional development sessions in line with school goals and priorities
- Recommends to the Principal what school-wide professional development will be the highest leverage in improving scholar results; lead engaging, actionable, adult professional learning; and hold staff accountable for the implementation of the practices
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of teaching experience with evidence of outstanding student growth and achievement in an urban school setting;
- A Bachelor's degree; Masters Degree in process or required
- A valid Indiana Teaching License
- Experience as an Assistant Principal, Dean or equivalent leadership role highly preferred but not necessary; Experience at a high-performing charter school highly preferred.
