JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Director or Director of Advancement for Leadership and Planned Giving is responsible for a portfolio of 250 leadership and planned giving prospects and donors. This position shall identify (with assistance from Prospect Research staff), engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents/families, and friends of Adelphi who have the financial capacity to make a gift of $1,000 and/or a planned gift. This position will have annual expectations for philanthropic income produced, personal visits, and other actions with donors and prospects.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Advancement for Major and Planned Giving

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Manage a portfolio of 250 leadership and planned gift prospects and donors.
  • Conduct qualifying, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for assigned prospects.
  • Conduct at least 150 personal visits annually, targeting high-potential prospects nearing gift decisions.
  • Develop and implement strategies, moves management plans, and detailed solicitation strategies for prospects. Create strategy statements for each prospect, detailing philanthropic interests, ask amounts, and timelines for solicitation and closure. Prepare and present written proposals tailored to each prospect's interests and giving capacity.
  • Develop gift opportunities aligned with Adelphi’s strategic priorities and unit-specific needs. Assess prospects' ability and willingness to give, focusing on leadership-level donors ($1,000 ).
  • Lead the Parents and Family Giving Program by qualifying, cultivating, and stewarding prospective donors, while developing and executing strategies to garner support for the Adelphi Fund. This includes building strong relationships with parents and families, identifying giving potential, and ensuring long-term engagement through personalized communication and recognition efforts.
  • Act as a liaison to schools and departments, including Athletics, discussing donor engagement and giving priorities.
  • Participate in regular prospect screening and strategy sessions with University Advancement and Alumni Relations teams. Report and forecast progress on activities and results, providing regular updates.
  • Leverage internal partners (administrators, faculty, alumni, parents/families) for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Utilize University and alumni events to identify and engage potential major gift donors.
  • Track and document all activities in Raiser’s Edge NXT, the University’s CRM.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with prospects, donors, and other volunteers.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and to creatively solve problems.
  • Ability to speak effectively and persuasively and to make presentations to individuals and small.
  • Ability to work independently. At the same time, ability to work effectively on teams with both internal (faculty/staff) and external (alumni/parents/families) partners and volunteers.
  • Understanding, appreciation, and knowledge of the prospect/donor cycle: identification, engagement, cultivation, involvement, solicitation, stewardship.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission, vision, and programs of Adelphi University.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Night and weekend work will be required.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, constituent relations, or a similar field is required.
  • Experience in face-to-face solicitations is required. A demonstrated track record in securing gifts is preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers is required.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (preferred) or similar CRM is required.
  • Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Moves Management™ system is preferred.
