JOB SUMMARY:
This is a part time 25 hours a week position. The Certification Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the certification process for Adelphi University program completers in compliance with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Success and Administrative Affairs, this position will be responsible for advising current and prospective students and alumni with certification inquiries. This role involves evaluating teacher credentials, advising candidates on certification requirements, liaising with state education agencies, and ensuring institutional compliance with state and federal policies.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Success and Administrative Affairs
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Serve as the primary point of contact for teacher certification inquiries.
Advise prospective and current teachers on certification pathways, requirements, and application processes.
Assist Derner, College of Arts and Sciences, and School of Social Work with certification related matters. Recommend program completers with necessary certification endorsements upon request.
Assist OSS staff, faculty and administrative advisors through reviewing student records to determine satisfaction of certification requirements.
Review and verify candidates’ academic and professional credentials to ensure compliance with NYSED certification regulations.
Process and submit certification recommendations via the TEACH system
Maintain accurate certification records and documentation for institutional and regulatory reporting.
Collaborate with academic departments, school administrators, and state agencies to facilitate certification approvals.
Process out-of-state certification requests and follow through with necessary documentation authorizations. Provide guidance on reciprocity agreements for out-of-state applicants.
Conduct informational sessions and update digital certification resources for students.
Regularly monitor certification email inbox and respond to correspondence in a timely manner.
Electronically report NYSED workshop completion through state regulated database (Child Abuse, Violence Prevention, Autism, DASA).
Assist the Senior Director of Student Success and Administrative Affairs with reports as needed.
REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, skills and abilities):
Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail
Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to interpret and apply state and federal education regulations
Proficiency in data management systems, including the TEACH system.
Knowledge of NYSED teacher certification requirements and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time.
Ability to work on a computer for long periods of time.
Ability to file documents in google drive.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree is required.
Minimum of three years of job-related experience is required.
NYS certification background is preferred.
Salary : $36,000
