Job Description
Summary: A Non-Clinical Counselor performs youth group home residential services with an emphasis on support activities that ordinarily do not require clinical therapeutic interventions but may require the application of behavioral therapy on an as needed basis. Applies the essential techniques required by the agency for non-counseling related youth activities and to therapies, tasks, computerized systems and regulatory needs appropriate in the role. Links theory to practice by observing group home activities and interacting with youth to ensure safety and adherence to rules. Emphasis is on non-clinical tasks to support the unit including significant overnight responsibilities. May on occasion provide support to other shifts based on circumstances needed to effectively run a residence and associated activities.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participates in daily schedule of youth activities including meal times, cleanup, daily chores, laundry, etc.
- Documents client behaviors in electronic health records systems and assists in delivery of treatment plans if required.
- May observe individual, group, family counseling sessions, or court appearances and provides assistance in taking notes or other support activities.
- Observes youth behaviors and discusses approaches with more experienced personnel related to appropriate interventions.
- Establishes credibility by demonstrating positive behaviors by completing tasks, maintaining schedules, working as a team member etc. for youth to observe.
- Applies physical restraints and supports residential team members by acting on or giving instructions in the event of medical, safety or other residential crises.
- Able to apply first aid or CPR and to support first responders and youth in the event an emergency requires immediate action.
- Follows routines, regulations and safety protocols. Notes out of compliance items and works with more experienced personnel to correct.
- Supports and promotes trauma informed care as a guide for creating a safe and non-violent environment for the clients in our care and the staff who care for them.
- Maintains client confidentiality for HIPAA, treatment plans, court proceedings, etc. and reports any out of compliance issues.
- May assist in the transport of youth using motor vehicles as a driver or support resource following agency protocols for seating and monitoring of youth.
- Uses computerized systems related to clinical health records, employee self-service, time reporting, scheduling, training, company intranet, security, etc.
- Is fully capable to follow all evening, overnight, and morning routines to ensure resident safety and adherence to group home rules.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency required.
- At least 90 days as a Youth Services Worker, the completion of all required training, submission of all required documentation and the approval of the Unit Director that a sufficient number of competencies are at a level 2 proficiency, making progress.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License required
- Must be able to pass Act 33/34 and FBI Clearances
- Proof of Auto Insurance
- Must be able to pass a physical examination upon job offer
