The Director of Medical Staff Services provides leadership, management and operational oversight of medical staff organization (MSO) support services. The Director works collaboratively with the Chief of Staff, the medical executive committee (MEC), additional medical staff leaders (i.e. working in collaboration with all Division Chairs, Recruitment, Director of Physician HR Support, Provider Enrollment, Directors, Managers and other departments as determined) to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the programs and activities of the MSO to ensure that the strategies of the MSO are supported and attained goals and plans are realized, and there is adherence to the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies (CMS, TJC, NCQA) that are relevant to the organized medical staff and organization. The Director is responsible for the day to day management of the Medical Staff Services and Provider Enrollment employees/office which also serves as the health systems Central Verification Office (CVO). Oversight of the development, administration, and management of the credentials verification and enrollment processes for the Health System (all regional sites included). Assemble, train, and maintain staff to perform the processes necessary to accomplish the work of privileging all providers (new and current) that wish to gain and maintain Medical Staff privileges in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws and Accrediting Bodies. Assist with establishing policies, procedures and systems to accomplish the credentials verification and enrollment processes for the organization. Responsible for participation in quality assessment and improvement activities related to identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate, and consistent with the goals of the Health System. Develops annual plan, annual report, and overall strategic planning for the Credentials Department together with the appropriate Medical Executive Committee and Administrative Leaders. Oversight of all processes pertinent to maintenance of NCQA Credentialing and Recredentialing Accreditation.
Ability to collaborate with departments and leaders throughout the organization in the successful onboarding of new providers; this position serves as an essential link between Medical Staff leadership, senior management, and the Board with excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Knowledge and application of Medical Staff Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, and Health System Policies and Procedures. Ability to work in collaboration with other sites/facilities in the processing of privileges for new providers and/or acquisitions. Ability to deploy action plans and monitor implementation of services within the department to improve overall service to all Medical Staff Services customers. Work continuously to identify improvement needs and ability to research best practice methods for the profession. Director must possess an excellent the ability to communicate effectively with providers, leaders and individuals at all levels inside and outside the Health System in order to ensure compliance with CMS, TJC, NCQA, ODH, ORC, Medical Staff Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, and the appropriate referral/documentation to Medical Staff Leaders/Chain of Command. Individual is able to work well independently with minimal oversight and possess the ability to coach/lead/develop staff. The ideal candidate should possess comprehensive expertise and knowledge of medical staff organization management, including regulatory and accreditation requirements, credentialing, privileging, peer review, etc.
Require Education: Bachelors Degree (Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related field)
Required Certifications: Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM)
Required Experience: 3-7 years privileging and credentialing experience in a management role
Preferred Experience: 5-7 years privileging and credentialing experience in a management role. Lean / Six Sigma Methodology Certification
