3D Mechanical/Process & Piping Designer-Job Overview
ADF Engineering is looking for a full-time 3D mechanical/process & piping designer to become part of our team of engineers and designers at our Miamisburg (Dayton), Ohio, location.
The 3D Mechanical/Process & Piping Designer will work closely with engineers and mechanical designers to develop engineering designs for primarily food, chemical, and pharmaceutical clients.
Essential Functions and Duties: Perform assigned project tasks with guidance from engineers, lead designers, and managers, including but not limited to:
- Develop 3D designs and equipment layouts using Autodesk Plant 3D or AutoCAD 3D software.
- Utilize Navisworks software for workflows and clash detection.
- Create process piping layouts and isometrics.
- Work collaboratively to develop facility equipment and piping 3D models.
- Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and Bluebeam for documentation and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience in mechanical design or a related field.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in creating 3D designs and equipment layouts in food, chemical, and pharmaceutical facilities.
- Skills & Abilities:

- Strong knowledge of process piping designs.
- Ability to interpret and create field sketches for equipment layouts and piping.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Plant 3D, AutoCAD 3D, and Navisworks software.
- Knowledge of bulk material handling equipment is a plus.
Preferred but not required:
- Participate in site visits to collect field data and develop field sketches.
- Knowledge of sheetmetal designs, including spouting and ducting routing.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position with a standard 40-hour work week.
