Job Summary:
Inspects, analyzes, or tests raw materials, components, products, and/or processes to ensure conformance with standards using fixed or variable measuring instruments. Verifies specified dimensions on product or material using inspection equipment. Appropriately documents results of testing. Associate performs physical and electronic disposition of raw materials to ensure control of raw materials.
Essential Functions:
- Under general supervision performs a variety of tasks, which require a confident knowledge of inspection and analysis techniques, materials, gauges, tools, and test equipment.
- Inspects and tests components, products and/or processes to ensure conformance with standards.
- Inspects and tests materials or products using fixed or variable measuring instruments.
- Oversees and verifies the bulk solvent delivery process at the Underground Storage Tank Area.
- Verifies specified dimensions on products or materials using inspection equipment.
- Executes Incoming and Laboratory procedures for sample preparation, i.e. polymers, adhesives, mixes, coatings, laminations, etc.
- Completes required paperwork/documentation accurately and neatly.
- Notifies manager of significant issues related to release of material to the process.
- Generates and reviews labeling and performs physical disposition of materials.
- Initiates and assists in investigation of out-of-specification (OOS) results or internal non-conformances.
- Initiates and assists in completing investigations and corrective actions concerning Adhesives Research material as well as Supplier Quality issues.
- Recommends and assists with problem solving and implementing solutions to issues with in-house materials and raw materials.
- Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality.
- Identifies, recommends and initiates changes to QC documentation and procedures to provide quality materials to production and final customer.
- Maintains work area utilizing 6S principals. Supports 6S audit functions.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment, notifying the group leader and/or supervisor of unsafe practices, conditions, or acts.
- Follows and enforces quality system procedures such as Nonconformance, Change Control and material release.
- Contacts Vendors, Operations, Engineers, Innovation, and other Quality associates for information regarding material quality, while utilizing professional communication via e-mail, fax, or telephone.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs 6S and safety audits as assigned.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Reports ARStrong Metrics on a daily and weekly basis.
Job Specifications:
- Requires high school education plus a minimum of 3 years of related experience preferred. College or evidence of continuing education classes/certifications is highly desirable.
- High level of attention to detail required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as test methods and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and apply basic statistical concepts such as averages (mean) and standard deviation.
- Utilizes computer system for access of email, MRP software and business-related programs.
- Communicates fluently (written and spoken) in English.
Physical Demands:
- Work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions; personal protective equipment use may be required.
- Physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities should be expected.
- Requires common physical characteristics and abilities such as above average agility and dexterity.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Hand Functions:
- Requires common physical characteristics and abilities such as agility and dexterity.
- Must have legible penmanship for completion of documentation.
- Must be able to use computer keyboard for keying of information.
Environmental:
- May be required to spend time in manufacturing areas where hazardous environments may exist, i.e. Flammable solvents, Explosion Designed areas.
- Must be aware of chemical spill response and actions.
- Job occurs mainly in Operations (Warehouse and Receiving Dock Areas) and Laboratory environments.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is often required. (lab coats, face shields, gloves)
- Safety glasses and Steel-Toed shoes to be worn while performing tasks in manufacturing areas.
