What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager Inbound Transportation position at Adidas?

Purpose: The Manager of Direct Ship is responsible for managing customer-based logistics execution overseeing a team that performs transportation, deliveries, and invoicing to the direct ship customers, bypassing the distribution center network.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Facing
  • Oversee the management and execution (track and trace, final mile delivery, invoicing) of all current and new Direct Ship customers.
  • Organize and establish key relationships with the transportation stakeholders of Direct Ship customers
  • Drive and maintain weekly/bi-weekly meetings as it relates to the delivery and accuracy of Direct Ship containers
  • Work directly with Account Operations (AO) team, at all levels, to coordinate the shipments to the customers.
  • Take initiative to communicate, improve and inform all internal parties of supply chain challenges as they relate to the flow of goods. IE port congestions, strikes, weather capacity etc.
  • Align with AO and the customers to monitor monthly dedicated and direct ship order percentages, what can ship direct and what can be invoiced.
  • Attend F2F meetings with key customers as nexessary.

Operations
  • Control and improve the direct ship program by aligning with each customer DC to support on time deliveries, potential de-van and cross dock challenges and maintain ETA accuracy at the lowest cost possible.
  • Capture, control and report on all transportation cost associated to Direct Ship customers.
  • Manage, plan and forecast all ocean and airfreight direct shipments for adidas Group customers
  • Oversee the coordination and communications for all direct shipments once in transit.
  • Communicate with external 3PL’s to ensure accuracy of port of arrival and delivery dates.
  • Communicate and collaborate with various yard locations, 3PL’s to better control the flow, availability and movement of containers.
  • Take initiative to support on-going and changing needs such as providing feedback and information to improve the business and/or business process.

Key Relationships:
  • Internally: Account Operations, Product Supply, Inbound Planning Origin, Order Fulfillment, Global Operations, Finance, Sales Development
  • Externally: Carriers, 4PLs, 3PL’s, origin and destination teams of these entities. Local service providers, customer’s truckers and DCs, customers

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership capabilities including coaching, development & living by inclusive practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Systematic and statistical interpretation skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen and must be familiar with the local US logistics market and aware of post-Covid global challenges
  • Ability to understand and use financial data to make decisions
  • Ability to anticipate problems, offer solutions, develop strategies, and address issues within the direct ship processes to meet financial targets
  • Good problem-solving skills in the supply chain area
  • Demonstrate ability to improve processes and challenge status quo
  • Ability to demonstrate our values for living an inclusive and respectful culture of belonging.
  • SAP user skills and experience is preferred
  • Must be advanced in main MS Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
  • A four year-degree from college or university with emphasis in supply chain management discipline preferred. We welcome other relevant experience or a combination of education and experience in place of formal education or a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the supply chain or logistics industry
