JOB SUMMARY

The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing key aspects of the Purchasing staff and processes under the direction of the Senior Supply Chain Manager. This role will also be responsible for leading various projects, initiatives and key business performance improvement plans.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES - Essential Functions (Other duties and projects may be assigned or requested.)

  • Oversee and mentor Purchasing support staff, including Temps, Admins, Jr. Buyers, and Indirect Buyers, with responsibility for workload assignments, disciplinary actions, and development plans.
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier performance, assessing quality and delivery compliance through on-site visits, performance metrics, audits, and readiness assessments.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and payment terms with suppliers, prioritizing long-term agreements to maximize savings across all indirect purchasing needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and internal processes, utilizing metrics and root cause analysis to foster positive trends.
  • Develop key supplier relationships to resolve issues across all commodity types, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Manage the monthly department KPIs, tracking performance and recommending improvements as necessary.
  • Serve as the department focal point for program oversight in the absence of a Manager of Purchasing, supporting both development and production programs.
  • Use leadership influence to align internal and external stakeholders with new concepts and practices in purchase order and supplier management.
  • Resolve issues and correct system or process problems, using an understanding of cross-departmental functions.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and refinement of procurement processes to improve site operations.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to site buyers and administrators, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Assign and distribute workloads, monitor performance, and offer mentorship to the team.
  • Organize and lead supplier meetings to address and resolve issues related to On-Time Delivery, Quality, Pricing, or other concerns.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Supplier Quality, Planning, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production) to qualify new suppliers and improve existing supplier relations.
  • Participate in Site Leadership Team meetings to troubleshoot part shortages and monitor program status.
  • Work with multiple departments (Engineering, Planning, Receiving, Quality) to ensure timely and accurate procurement processes, addressing any non-conformance issues.
  • Recommend system improvements to enhance functionality and streamline day-to-day work processes.
  • Oversee the Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) process in relation to Purchasing and manage the respective staff.
  • Directly manage the GRIEF process within Purchasing, ensuring smooth coordination and issue resolution.
  • Source new suppliers when necessary to support Aftermarket and Indirect purchasing needs.
  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality and Quality Assurance to maintain an approved supplier list and ensure supplier compliance.
  • Track material procurement status across all projects, ensuring progress, schedule adherence, and performance, and communicate pertinent updates to all necessary personnel.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment, adhering to company policies.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Protect the confidentiality of the company’s information and products.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Knowledge, and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience.

Skills:

  • Proficient in MRP systems
  • Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, math and statistics

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented, with a strong ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • May require extended or irregular hours.
  • Employees must adapt to changing business needs.

SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION

  • Works under general supervision with minimal oversight.
  • Independently develops solutions to problems.
  • Direction is provided for assignments in terms of desired outcome (goals), timing, and budget. Work is reviewed or measured in terms of meeting organizational objectives and schedules.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

  • Providing support to all department managers in planning and executing purchasing processes.
  • Monitors team performance and KPIs, providing feedback and corrective actions as needed
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and development plans for team members, fostering skill growth and career advancement.
  • Resolves conflicts within the team and mediates disputes with suppliers to maintain positive relationships.

  • Develop and provide solutions to complex problems based on established precedents and are consistent with organizational objectives.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Adient Aerospace offers competitive wages and benefits to recognize employees for their work. Actual salaries will vary depending on experience and geographic location.

Salary Range Transparency: $103,000 - $137,400 annually, depending on candidate qualifications
