Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Qualifications:

**Basic Qualifications: * Possess a valid State of New Mexico Driver’s license * High School Diploma or General Education degree (GED). * Knowledge of underground water utility systems * Digital Literacy (e.g. Maintenance Connection, IonCity, Phone etc.) * 5 – 6 Years Operating Heavy Equipment (e.g. Backhoe, Front Loader or Excavator) * 2 years minimum experience working in the water utility field**Preferred Qualifications: * New Mexico Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) * 4 years’ experience working in the water utility field in Operations and Maintenance of Water Systems. * New Mexico Water Supply 2 or New Mexico Water Distribution System 2**Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: * The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact. * Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; carry a 50-pound toolbox up a flight of stairs; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

Responsibilities:

Install, Operate, locate, maintain and repair water distribution infrastructure including water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, PRVs and meters; establishes and maintains effective sample procedures for water lines; Diagnose system operating problems, performs necessary corrective and remedial activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Works safely and adhere to all safety procedures, policies, permits and practices. * Operates Heavy Equipment e.g. backhoe, mini excavator, trailer mounted hydro excavator * Knowledge of hooking up and towing equipment * Operates a Dump Truck (if CDL driver), Hydro Excavator, Ditch Witch etc. * Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment and tools required to load, unload, haul, and spread sand, gravel, dirt and/or waste products, digs, refills ditches and trenches. * Performs routine servicing and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems. * Locates and marks underground water, wastewater and reclaimed water services by utilizing provided maps and tools * Cleans vehicles, heavy equipment, pumps, tools and other stationery and portable equipment. * Performs routine inspection of vehicles and equipment. * Performs Minor Preventive Maintenance. * Maintains applicable records. * Read diagrams and maps (Vision view, Collector, Etc.) * Maintains grounds and buildings; cuts grass, weeds and brush; trims trees and bushes; rakes grass; leaves and trash, seeds and cares for lawn and ornamental plantings. * Familiarity with hand and power tools and equipment commonly used in the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, structure and buildings. * Carries out oral and written directions. * Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during work. * Follow all project SOPs, policies and procedures relating to Computerized Maintenance management systems (CMMS)inventory control management of checking out and returning inventory. * Ability to carry and respond to pages as requested by management. * Ability to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner. * Performs other duties as assigned related to this job descriptions and basic qualifications
