Job Summary
The Director of Nursing manages and directs the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices that comply with federal, state, and local regulations. He or she demonstrates knowledge of the patients' physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs based on the health care required. In addition, the Director of Nursing ensures adequate staffing patterns, and that staff are qualified and trained.
Essential Functions
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Provide basic nursing care to patients within the scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
- Oversees the management and daily operations of the nursing department.
- Develops and maintains nursing service objectives and standards.
- Ensures that each patient's needs are assessed and that a treatment plan is developed for nursing care.
- Provides nursing care following established nursing service objectives and standards.
- Manages and oversees staff, which includes recruiting/hiring, evaluating, scheduling, terminating, etc.
- Manages the department budget.
- Manages supplies and ensures orderly work areas.
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards.
- Develops procedures and practices for emergencies.
- Communicates with patients and families regarding treatment and care.
- Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required
Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing at a minimum; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Current state license as a Registered Nurse.
- Three years of relevant RN experience required.
- At least one year of supervisory or management experience.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Must be able to safely and successfully perform job-related functions, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.
