Position Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for providing protective services to the hospital, patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. Adirondack Health provides 8 hour-a-day security from 10pm-6am.
Their primary responsibility is to provide order and control during the shift. They are to prevent crime and promote order through their presence. In the event of the commission of a crime or disorder, this position is responsible for alerting higher authorities, protecting personnel and property, investigating and securing the incident scene until properly relieved.
This position patrols within assigned post limits, or as directed by the Shift Supervisor, inspects and responds to incidents, emergencies, and requests for assistance. This position performs initial investigations for incidents in which dispatched and is responsible for completing all appropriate reports and forms.

Educational Requirements/ Qualifications
- Must meet or exceed state licensing requirements
- Must have the ability to perform essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- The ability to use the minimum level of physical strength that is necessary to perform certain time sensitive tasks that occur during the course of duty (applications of hard/soft restraints to a patient, patient transfers by stretcher, lifting of patients off of a helicopter to a gurney, responding and defusing physical confrontations, patient evacuations, etc.).
- Reliable and efficient use of the five (5) senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, smell.
- The ability to work for long periods of time in closed and/or confined spaces within the hospital campus;
- The ability to effectively and confidently communicate with all levels of people verbally and in written form (radio and telephone directing emergencies or evacuations, addressing senior managers when necessary, addressing the public, etc).
- The ability to operate as a member of the Security team or independently with minimal supervision at incidents of uncertain duration displaying both the stamina and body coordination to complete such assignments as code responses.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and to work evenings, weekends and holidays as requested or required;
- Ability to follow directions, work under stress and continuously strive for improvement;
- Ability to maintain assigned post until properly relieved;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment;
- Ability to achieve and maintain all required training certifications;
- Ability to properly utilize personal protective equipment and standard precautions as exposures to various infectious and contagious agents (Hepatitis A, B, & C; HIV, TB, AIDS, Influenza, Covid, etc.) is possible.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in an environment involving injuries, disease, and death of patients, specifically children and infants
