Adirondack Studios looks to add an energetic and artistic Metal Fabricator to our growing team. This team member must be a problem solver and possess proficiency in assisting with the creation of themed scenic elements for a variety of entertainment projects, including, but not limited to, Opera, Theme Parks, Museums, Public Art, and Live Entertainment. This is an excellent opportunity to use your abilities and metal fabrication skills to bring smiles to people’s faces.
Required Skills
Ability to read blueprints, sketches, shop and construction drawings, and extract information, including material requirements and dimensions
Ability to custom fabricate, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
A Proficient understanding of Geometry and shop math skills
Ability to use and understand measuring instruments such as a tape measure, calipers, square, protractors, etc.
Understand material properties of mild steel, stainless steel, marine grade stainless steel, and aluminum
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to use tools such as drill press, band saw, punch press, chop saw, bench grinder and hand grinders, large sheers, plasma cutter, etc. Mill and lathe experience a plus
Ability to carry out both simple and complex verbal instruction
Proficiency with (MIG), (TIG), (FCAW) welding process, Machining skills a plus, Structural welding knowledge a plus
Ability to keep and maintain a clean and organized working area
Safely operate chain hoist, forklift, and rigging to move materials safely
Good written communication skills
Ability to be Efficient with materials/supplies
Work from ladders and aerial work platforms
Responsibilities:
Work in a safe, positive manner, showing respect to others and contributing to the team
Always maintain professional conduct
Follows established safety procedures, safety requirements, and equipment
Adhere to all company policies and procedures
Takes work direction from metal shop manager, team leads, and senior-level staff members
Set up/operate metal saws, drill press, grinder, sheer, iron worker, plasma cutter, hand tools, band saw, etc.
Making sure all welds meet all specifications and quality standards
Clean, deburr, and organize/store materials
Perform the metal fabrication needs of the company: Form, bend, and weld armatures and other custom creative fabrications and build/repair scenic elements, etc.
Perform layout preparation and plan well to reduce material waste
Keep written records and file paperwork as required by shop standards
Welding certification tests as needed
Knowledge:
High school education or G.E.D. and/or one year certificate from college or technical school; or minimum three to six months related experience and/or training
Ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Requires a broad knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, and maintenance procedures and practices
Work Environment:
There are physical requirements associated with this position. The work environment is that of a typical production facility
Benefits:
Personal Time accrual of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked immediately upon hire
Vacation Accrual: 4% of hourly compensation contributed by ADKS, payable in March of each year. Accrual begins after the initial 1000 hours worked
Participation in the ADKS 401K plan following 90 days of employment and then at quarterly enrollment periods
Retirement Annuity offered at no cost to employee based on Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
Participation in ADKS Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
Participation in the ADK Studios Profit Sharing Plan following 3 years of employment. Employee must work a minimum of 1000 hours per calendar year, and ADKS reaching financial goals
This in-person position is based in our Argyle, New York, Headquarters. Our fabrication shop is located approximately 1 hour north of Albany and 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls. The shift is anticipated to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the opportunity for Overtime as available.
Range of Rates:
$19 – $25 per hour benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the location of the position.
