Salary: $65,000 annual salary

College Background

Paul Smith’s College is a private, four-year institution with approximately 750 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Known as the “College of the Adirondacks,” we are the only baccalaureate-granting institution located within the six-million-acre, world-famous, “forever-wild” Adirondacks in New York’s North Country.

Department Description

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Education and Paul Smith’s College. Our program provides a means for traditionally underserved, low-income students to obtain admission as well as academic and financial support. The primary aim of HEOP is to support, retain, and graduate talented students, equipping them for success in college and beyond.

Position Description

The HEOP Director works collaboratively with other professional staff and faculty from across campus to coordinate the Higher Education Opportunity Program.

Requirements

Qualifications and Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in education or related fields (counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work, etc.).
  • 3 years of prior experience in higher education working within the designated program or service area of the position.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use varied online databases and current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, OneNote).
  • Ability to work with detail and accuracy, maintain data, and create effective reports.
  • Ability to understand and utilize data and statistics.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to promote the College’s academic and career support services to the campus community.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Ability to work some weekends or evenings as needed.
  • Ability to drive and transport students as needed. Driver’s license and driving record must be acceptable to PSC insurance carrier, which will enable authorization to drive College-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.

Preferences

  • 5 years of previous experience in a higher education setting working with at risk or underprepared students in either student affairs, academic, or career support.
  • Computer and software expertise, including expertise in database creation and manipulation; advanced applications and reporting features for Microsoft Office; and knowledge of on-line web-based applications.

This Higher Education Opportunity Program Director position is key to maintaining the legacy of Paul Smith’s College’s historic hospitality, while looking toward the future by promoting sustainability, local business, and community.
