Job Summary:
The Director of Instructional Support Services leads and oversees instructional support initiatives across multiple districts, schools, and educational programs within the county. This role is essential in promoting culturally responsive and effective instructional practices, integrating educational technology, and ensuring alignment with state standards. The Director collaborates with school leaders, educators, and community stakeholders to enhance student outcomes through professional development, curriculum innovation, and the use of technology. This position includes supervising a multi-faceted team and managing instructional support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Leadership and Support:
    • Lead and coordinate county-wide professional development workshops, training sessions, and support programs for educators and administrators.
    • Provide consultation and guidance for instructional improvement, curriculum development, and effective teaching practices that reflect a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and are aligned with state standards.
    • Serve as a primary resource for school improvement efforts, supporting state education department initiatives.
  2. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Expand and enhance instructional support services through partnerships with local school districts, community organizations, and educational institutions.
    • Facilitate collaboration between educators across the county to share best practices, resources, and strategies that foster inclusive and culturally sustaining education.
    • Engage in meaningful, two-way communication with school leaders, district officials, and other stakeholders to ensure responsive and impactful support.
  3. Program and Resource Management:
    • Oversee all instructional support programs, including Professional Development, Model Schools, the Teacher Center, Library Media Services, Learning Technologies, and other related services.
    • Manage and evaluate the Instructional Support Services budget, ensuring optimal use of resources.
    • Develop and maintain a repository of high-quality instructional materials, including resources that reflect diverse cultures, identities, and experiences, as the CRSE Framework emphasizes.
    • Coordinate the use of BOCES facilities for professional development.
  4. Team Leadership and Supervision:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of instructional coaches, technology support personnel, and administrators within the department.
    • Coordinate the delivery of instructional support services across multiple sites, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality service delivery that meet the diverse needs of all student populations.
    • Recruit, hire, train, and develop staff to deliver professional development and instructional support aligned with district goals.
  5. Data-Driven Decision-Making:
    • Collect, analyze, and report data on the effectiveness of instructional support initiatives and professional development programs, disaggregating data to understand and address disparities in student outcomes in alignment with the BOCES' strategic plan.
    • Use data to inform decision-making and provide recommendations to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  6. Ethics, Equity, and Professional Norms:
    • Act ethically and uphold professional standards in all aspects of leadership, including decision-making, resource management, and relationships with staff and stakeholders.
    • Address matters of equity and cultural responsiveness to create inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students and educators.
  7. Extracurricular and Enrichment Services:
    • Coordinate enrichment programs such as the Arts in Education and the Scholastic Art Show.
    • I oversee and organize special projects, such as the Odyssey of the Mind competition, First Lego Robotics, and summer STEAM camps.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field required (Master’s preferred). NYS Certification as SDA or SDL required.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in instructional support, technology integration, or professional development. Administrative or supervisory experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in instructional technology tools and learning management systems.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects across various districts and stakeholders.
    • In-depth knowledge of current educational trends, curriculum development, and instructional strategies.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel to statewide meetings, schools, and district offices across the county to provide on-site support.
  • Flexibility to conduct evening or weekend workshops as needed.
  • Hybrid work environment, combining office-based responsibilities and fieldwork in schools and districts.

This full-time, 12-month position requires a dynamic and collaborative leader committed to improving instructional practices and outcomes across the county’s educational institutions.
