Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving over 500 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking a Temporary Full Time Maintenance Team Member for the Spring Semester. Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday for a total of 40 hours per week. Occasional weeknight and weekend hours throughout the year to support campus special events. This position starts early February 2025.
The Maintenance Team Member performs general maintenance and repairs on our Middle and High School Campus to ensure that all students, staff, and the community are provided a safe, attractive, clean and healthy environment for learning and work. This position reports directly to our Director of Facilities.
Starting rate: $20.00 per hour
Key Duties
- Repairing and maintaining the interior and exterior of the school (i.e. painting, replacing light bulbs and/or ceiling tiles, carpet/floor cleaning, caulking, assembling or moving furniture, blowing leaves, power washing, mulching, etc.)
- Performing minor adjustments on the HVAC system, furniture, fixtures and other items in the school
- Reporting major repair needs to the Director of Facilities.
- Ensuring that all tools, supplies, and equipment are stocked and maintained in a manner consistent with safe and efficient working practices
- Self-directed daily and weekly campus maintenance (i.e. mowing lawn, blowing leaves, clearing walkways, cleaning up litter, powerwashing, wasp/hornet control, playground safety assessment, etc.)
- Keeping common areas of the school clean and clear of trash and debris. Areas like front entrance, parking lot, library, flex space, courtyard, playgrounds.
- Securing tools, supplies, and equipment when not in use
- Check work email and school calendars
- Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a Fingerprint background check, physicals and drug screenings
- Must have a High School Diploma/GED/Equivalent
- Must be able to complete training programs as stipulated by the School, including CPR and First Aid
- Current driver’s license and clean driving record (minimum 3 years)
- Strong sense of pride in quality workmanship and attention to detail

- Ability and willingness to follow oral and written directions in English
- Ability to interact with administrators, school staff and students in a professional manner

- Basic working knowledge of plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical, and/or other general repair skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 140 pounds with assistance
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, kneel, reach, crawl, push, pull and twist the majority of the day
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate tools and all school landscape and housekeeping equipment
- Previous driving, custodial and/or general repair experience preferred
This is a temporary full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.
