Salary and Benefits 

The hourly range is $18.12 - $23.84 depending on education/experience.  This position is not eligible for insurance benefits.

 

About the District 

 

Springfield Public Schools is located in Springfield, Oregon, in the heart of the Willamette Valley, and serves 185 square miles of the city of Springfield and East/Central Lane County.  We are directly to the East of Eugene, where the University of Oregon is located.  We currently have approximately 10,000 students, over 1,400 staff members and over 600 teachers in our kindergarten through grade 12 school district.  Springfield Public Schools believes student success is our most important outcome.  The success of our students depends on the collective community coming together to support “Every Student, Every Day” throughout their K-12 education.

 

About the Position

 

Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Educational Assistant for the SPARK Club After School Program.

 The individual in this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Assisting students transitionining from their regular classes to the after-school program;
  • Assisting community partners during recreation time;
  • Assisting teachers during instruction;
  • Assisting during dinner time;
  • Providing language support to students.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

  • Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
  • Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass Safe Schools training modules as assigned.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Related experience in an educational setting.
  • Spanish bilingual/biliterate.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)

 

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing, correct language usage; receptionist, telephone and record keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures.

 

Skills to: apply student de-escalation strategies in a variety of unique situations and environments; transition smoothly from one task to another, through multiple environments within a school day.

 

Ability to: understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate appearance and attire; maintain attendance standards as outlined in OSEA bargaining agreement; greet stakeholders; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information; operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; maintain records; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding, make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions; practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity.
