JOB GOAL:
Under general direction, provide financial oversight by performing a variety of accounting and auditing functions, including reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining accurate accounting records. Ensure the preparation of comprehensive financial reports, district budgets, monthly cash reconciliations, and general ledger management. Supervise and support the finance office staff, while conducting internal audits to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in financial operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages and directs work of the Finance Office.
- Compiles monthly cash reconciliation.
- Prepares reports, schedules, and documentation for auditors.
- Maintains and closes out books and general ledger.
- Analyzes, controls, projects, and summarizes financial data.
- Assures adequate cash is available in each bank account.
- Review and research accounting problems, developing and implementing problem-solving mechanisms.
- Prepares and posts journal entries and closing entries.
- Assures reliability of budgets and accounting records for district funds.
- Prepares expenditure, revenue, and tax reports.
- Responds to questions concerning budget codes and accounting procedures.
- Audits cash transactions and activity accounts.
- Oversee ERP system access to ensure compliance with internal controls.
- Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors in accounting or equivalent and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years experience in government accounting or equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Current New Mexico Level II Professional School Business License or eligible to obtain.
