DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT 

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 

Full-Time, 220 days per year

 

SUMMARY: 

Under general direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum and Career Development supervises programs and services for students as well as monitors the overall effectiveness of programs and ensures all are implemented within federal, state and local regulations. The Director will provide leadership and direction for the implementation of the district’s long-range plan(s) for the Career Development Program as well as the curriculum goals of the district.  This position will have a primary duty of developing the CDP program while supporting the curriculum works of the district.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, develop, and implement innovative partnerships with business and industry in the community to foster a relationship that creates opportunities for students.
  2. Assess community needs and develop partnerships and other collaborative relationships with business/industry, government agencies, and other entities. Make regular contacts with area employers/associations to determine future workforce needs.
  3. Participate in regional Workforce Development (WFD) meetings; other local, state, and federal meetings related to Workforce Development as well as seminars, workshops, and professional development opportunities to maintain current knowledge of human resources, laws/regulations and requirements relating to WFD.
  4. Establish a pipeline in Workforce Awareness, Exploration, and Preparation within the K-12 setting.
  5. Advise and collaborate with staff on curriculum, content and vision, encouraging and supporting the development of innovative instructional programs.
  6. Design, develop, and implement work-based learning opportunities for all students that may include visitations, shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, paid employment, and instructional program delivery at worksites. 
  7. Ensure the Career Development Program teachers have the necessary training and materials to improve participation and earning of student certifications.
  8. Develop and implement programs focusing on building awareness of careers, certifications, pathways, and post-secondary training.
  9. Works with Business Manager to create the Career Development Program budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Manages all Career Development Program purchases in accordance with budgetary and grant limitations and GKB policy.
  10. Develop, write, and implement grants and contracts to support Career and Curriculum Development initiatives.
  11. Works with Administrative Office to maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment as necessary.
  12. Maintain safety standards that conform to state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety / security measures for the Career Development Program to protect students, staff, supplies, and equipment.
  13. Oversee the Construction Trades Project Home, including sales and customer service.
  14. Lead academic programs and initiatives across the district. Ensure the consistent and effective implementation of instructional strategies that promote high student achievement.
  15. Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure fidelity in implementation and positive outcomes on student learning. Ensure curricula are continuously aligned with state standards.
  16. Collaborate closely with principals and administrators to organize professional learning opportunities aimed at improving school performance, curriculum alignment, and instructional practices.
  17. Lead the curriculum evaluation process and guide content curriculum committees in identifying and acquiring the necessary educational resources.
  18. Develop and implement professional development initiatives ensuring alignment with district priorities and best practices.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent which are consistent with the position, and in compliance with the corporation policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

  • Knowledge of career and technology education curriculum and instruction.

  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.

  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.

  • Five years of education expereince.

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is continuously required to meet deadlines with time constraints, interact with the public and other staff.
