The Deputy Court Administrator for Family Court is responsible for assisting the court in the planning and implementation of family and juvenile court reform in Berks County. Under the direction of the Administrative Judges, the Deputy Administrator will implement and monitor case management practices to assure that cases move through the system in an efficient, effective, and timely manner. The Deputy Administrator will also coordinate the training needs of the Judges, Hearing Officers, professional and clerical staff to ensure the highest quality of service to the families in Berks County.

Job Duties
- Implements comprehensive case management procedures that comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Acts as a liaison among Administrative Judges, courtroom personnel, attorneys, and various Court and County departments.
- Researches and implements new technology, such as electronic filing and file imaging, to enhance service to the public and promote the cost-effective operation of the family and juvenile court systems. Utilizes several case management systems for the various substantive areas of oversight.
- Compiles statistics and reports to monitor the efficient operation of the family and juvenile court system.
- Coordinates and schedules the training needs for Judges, Hearing Officers, case managers, professional and clerical staff.
- Implements policies and procedures as directed by the District Court Administrator and the Administrative Judges, and maintains and updates all job duties in a comprehensive job manual.
- Participates in management team meetings with the District Court Administrator.
- Assists in the development of consolidated, standardized forms and notices to reduce the number of documents and streamline the process for pro se litigants (estimated to be 80% of the family law caseload).
- Prepares the monthly calendar scheduling Family Emergency Motions, Family Miscellaneous, Paternity and Support Enforcement.
- Responsible for the hiring, training, and supervising approximately 25 professional and clerical staff in the Family and Juvenile Court staff, including discipline and termination when necessary.
- Ensures that the physical workspace is suitable for Family and Juvenile Court hearings and staff offices. Requests maintenance to address issues as they arise.
- Develops the annual Family Court Budget and manages purchases and expenses throughout the year to remain within the budget.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Judicial, Business, or Public Administration, or a closely related field; PLUS
- Three years of professional-level experience in court management or four years of varied office management work including professional-level experience in budgeting, procurement, and human resource management.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered.
Additional Requirements / Preferences
- Satisfactory criminal background check required.
- A Juris Doctorate is strongly preferred.
