POSITION SUMMARY

The Math and Science K-12 Director is responsible for providing leadership and vision in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s K-12 math and science curriculum. This role ensures high-quality instruction that aligns with state standards, fosters critical thinking, and prepares students for future post-secondary success.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Curriculum Development and Oversight:
•Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of K-12 math and science curricula.
• Ensure curriculum alignment with state standards, district goals, and current educational research.
• Oversee the creation of instructional materials, pacing guides, and resources that support differentiated instruction.
• Promote integration of technology and real-world applications in math and science learning.
Assessment Development and Evaluation:
• Develop and refine formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and growth.
• Collaborate with educators to create performance-based math and science assessments.
• Analyze assessment data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for instructional improvement.
• Ensure assessments align with curriculum goals and state testing requirements.
Instructional Support and Professional Development:
• Provide coaching and instructional support to administrators, teachers, and support staff in effective math and science practices.
• Design and deliver professional development sessions focused on curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies.
• Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) to encourage collaboration and reflective practice.
Program Leadership and Innovation:
• Lead the implementation of math and science initiatives, enrichment programs, and hands-on learning opportunities.
• Foster partnerships with higher education institutions, community organizations, and industry leaders.
• Promote interdisciplinary learning, project-based learning, and STEM career exploration.
Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement:
• Use data-driven decision-making to enhance curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
• Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness to ensure continuous improvement.
• Prepare and present reports on student performance, curriculum outcomes, and program impact.
Compliance and Standards:
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, district policies, and educational standards.
• Stay informed on changes in state standards, assessments, and instructional methodologies.
Leadership and Collaboration:
• Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, support staff, and district leaders to achieve educational goals.
• Serve as a resource for parents and the community on STEM education and curriculum matters.
• Lead committees focused on curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices.

Content-Based Support for Special Populations:
• Collaborate with teachers, special education teachers, support staff, and specialists to adapt math and science curriculum for special populations, including emergent bilingual students, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented students.
• Provide coaching and resources to support differentiated instruction and accommodations.
• Develop strategies for inclusive practices and culturally responsive teaching.
• Ensure instructional materials and assessments meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Education, Mathematics, Science, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
    • Valid teaching certification (as required by the state).
    • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in math or science.
    • Leadership experience in curriculum development and instructional coaching.
    • Strong understanding of state standards, assessments, and best practices in Math and Science education.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and implement evidence-based strategies.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a leadership role within a K-12 educational setting.
  • Background in math and science program development or grant writing.
  • Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard, smart board and other classroom technology.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds, including but not limited to books, paper, and instructional materials/supplies.
  • This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, and/or the ability to be mobile.
  • Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the state's department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.

  • Ability to facilitate various size groups using facilitative leadership skills
  • Skills in written and oral communication, planning, and organization
  • Knowledge of current educational trends, methods, research, and technology
  • In-depth knowledge of assigned program and service area
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven research and analytical skills
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be self-directed

 

Salary : $80,000 - $95,000
