Description
The G2 Education Advocate will have professional experience in education and social services, a passion for motivating students toward academic and personal achievement, and the ability to build out the GenTwo Education Partnership based on desired program goals and outcomes. In this new program, they will help establish a philosophy that education is valued and prioritized in all agency programs.
Essential Functions
- Create and maintain a database of all students throughout the agencies programs, and track academic data and education-related outcomes
- Work with leadership team to co-create GenTwo Education Partnership program
- Build relationships with children and their families to create a supportive learning environment
- Actively monitor children’s academic performance and provide support as needed
- Make and maintain contacts among area preschool providers and schools to ensure a smooth transition for students
- Work collaboratively with Project Grow and Youth Success teams to replicate intensive student services
- Facilitate psychoneurological testing through existing channels, advocate for Individual Education Plan (IEP) when indicated
- Guide families through the application process for private schools, Step Up scholarships, FAFSA, and colleges
- Staying abreast of changes and practices in standardized testing and providing supports for those tests
- Help arrange transportation for education-related appointments
- Collaborate with case managers on children’s overall wellbeing and needs, including initial educational needs assessment and relevant referrals to community partners
- Provide tutoring and homework help, coordinate with volunteer tutors
- Provide guidance and support as a mentor for students and model for parents
- Create and maintain an incentive program and plan education-related community events
- Create a welcoming space for students of all ages to visit
- Work with the Finance Department to maintain budget for all program spending (testing, specialized educational tools, preschool tuition subsidies, incentives, events, etc.)
- Represent and speak about Adopt-A-Family at community meetings and events to establish a positive rapport
- Provide data to program staff for reports as needed
- Attend case management meetings, including each family’s initial intake
- All other duties assigned
Training and Development
- Develop deep understanding of various housing programs and their policies, procedures, and ancillary services
- Develop understanding of operations, educational philosophy, and services provided by existing youth educational programs
- Continuously learn about all facets of Step Up for Students scholarships, FAFSA, SAT/ACT/CLT prep, college/trade school application, military service, job readiness for high school graduates, and about existing educational resources and referral options
- Attend all internal team and staff meetings
Requirements
- Three (3) years’ professional experience in education, working for a school district, charter school, or related education institution
- Bachelor’s degree in education (early childhood, elementary, secondary, special), or related field.
- Preference for experience with establishing IEPs and ESE services for students with special needs including gifted through specific learning disabilities (SLD)
- Relate well with at-risk families and students of all ages
- Ability to work a flexible schedule of weekends, evenings, and early/late afternoon hours.
- Must have excellent people skills and the ability to foster a positive environment.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with people of all socio-economic levels
- Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint)
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
