Boat Rigger Job Description

A Boat Rigger is responsible for preparing and outfitting boats with the necessary equipment, systems, and accessories to ensure they are ready for use. This role is essential in the marine industry, where precision, technical skills, and attention to detail are critical for ensuring safety and functionality. Below is a detailed outline of the job responsibilities, skills, and qualifications for a boat rigger:

Key Responsibilities

* Installation and Assembly:

  • Install engines, steering systems, electrical systems, and fuel lines.
  • Mount and configure accessories such as navigation systems, trolling motors, radar, and depth finders.
  • Assemble boat components such as towers, t-tops, and railings.

* Testing and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform functionality tests to ensure all systems are operating correctly.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.

* Maintenance and Adjustments:

  • Conduct routine maintenance on installed equipment to ensure reliability.
  • Adjust rigging to ensure proper balance and weight distribution for optimal performance.

* Customer Interaction:

  • Provide demonstrations to customers on how to use installed systems and accessories.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and recommend appropriate equipment upgrades or replacements.

* Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and marine industry standards during installation and testing.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly secured and operationally safe.

Skills and Qualifications

* Technical Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Mercury Racing engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
  • Understanding of boating laws, safety standards, and regulations.

* Mechanical Skills:

  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools for installation and assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.

* Problem-Solving:

  • Strong diagnostic skills to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or electrical issues.

* Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined or awkward spaces.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including on docks and boats.

* Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
  • A customer-focused approach to ensure satisfaction with rigging services.

Educational Requirements and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Technical certification in marine systems or a related field (preferred).
  • Prior experience in boat rigging, marine mechanics, or a similar role.

Work Environment

  • Work typically takes place in boatyards, marinas, or manufacturing facilities.
  • May require travel to customer locations or on-site service calls.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
