Adriel has a long and rich history of caring for children in need. Founded as the Mennonite Children’s home in 1896, Adriel’s mission has always focused on serving those children who either have no family or whose family environment is not safe or healthy. Children come to Adriel from an unsafe situation, to foster care to success.

As the needs of children and families have changed, Adriel has adapted and expanded its services to meet them. Today, Adriel provides foster care, counseling, and independent living services for children, kinship and adoption home study services for families, and family preservation services to help children and families stay together.

Responsibilities

I. Family Coaching and Enhanced Visitation

The Specialist working with families through Family Coaching will do the following:

  • Upon receipt of a family referral, talk with appropriate professionals who have knowledge of the family needs, if applicable
  • Make initial contact with assigned family and making recommendations for needed services
  • Attend Triage Team meetings and describe recommend services to treatment team
  • Provide one or more of the following services to the family:
  • In-home visits
  • If appropriate, linking the family with others parents with similar goals and/or struggles
  • Mentoring
  • Planned activities for the youth and/or caregiver (in-home or out-of-home)
  • Structured activities to improve family functioning
  • These may include cooking as a family, role playing, recreational activities, or other related activities
  • Document all services provided
  • The documentation will include the following:
  • Date of the meeting or interaction
  • Amount of time
  • People in attendance
  • Summary of the meeting or interaction
  • Submit documentation to Adriel Family Preservation Manager within two business days of the meeting or interaction.
  • Submit a summary of services and recommendation for termination or continuation of services every 90 days

II. Supervised Visitation

The Specialist working with families through Supervised Visitation will do the following:

  • Offer supervision services at a neutral site. This may be an Adriel office, a County DJFS office or a community site.
  • Provide supervision services based on the needs of the family.
  • Complete required documentation including: visitation notes that summarize the visit, the interactions between parent (s) and child(ren), strengths and areas for development of the parents, and other observations along with other documentation as assigned.

III. The Specialist will not provide the following:

  • On-call services
  • The Specialist will not provide any after-hours phone number to the family
  • Crisis intervention services
  • If the family is in crisis at the onset of a visit or a crisis situation occurs during a scheduled visit, the Family Specialist will Specialist the family through the event while providing them with tools and resources for handling similar situations
  • Case management services
  • Phone consultation with the family or team members unless specified in individual contract
  • Transportation services

IV. Provide Respite Care services as assigned.

Requirements

  • Shall have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to relate well with co-workers and other agency personnel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain objectivity, fairness, and consistency.
  • Assertive, flexible, team-oriented, and able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Have knowledge and operational knowledge of technology, including Google.
  • Empathy for the goals and practices of a faith based agency serving families and children.
  • Have sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Adriel’s youth and families.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned family(s).
