Job Summary:

The Backroom Assistant Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team to accomplish daily production goals, provide donor customer service, and meet quality operational standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Accountable for the team achieving daily production goals.
  • Expected to keep the backroom organized and efficient, including the adjacent outdoor area.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate supplies for the production team.
  • Oversees the proper maintenance of the trucks and the scheduling of drivers to meet the demands for donations.
  • Adheres to Teen Challenge’s mission, vision, and core values to ensure that the highest level of customer service is being met.
  • The Backroom Assistant Manager ensures that the company’s safety policies, programs, and procedures are followed in the backroom by all employees and students.
  • Responsible for documenting and reporting all accidents within their area of responsibility in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Ensures all donors are communicated with properly and in a timely manner.
  • Guarantees all production and donation counts are accurate and recorded on a daily basis.
  • Assists the Store Manager with annual employee evaluations.
  • Notifies the Store Manager of any customer complaints and concerns related to employees or students.
  • Have the knowledge and training to oversee the operations of the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised:

The employee exercises supervision of the store production cycle and other areas of designated responsibility. This includes staff, volunteer, intern, and student participation.

Direct supervision of the Box Truck Driver, Processor of Hard good, and the Processor of Soft Goods.

Recruiting Requirements - Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

1. A working knowledge of the methods and practices of supervision and the ability to carry them out.

2. A Working knowledge of administrative record keeping procedures and accounting principles and practices.

3. Considerable ability to work harmoniously with other staff personnel and supervise the work of subordinate employees.

4. The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

5. Emotional maturity.

6. Professional objectivity.

7. The ability to act in a Christian manner.

8. The ability to carry out recommendations and directives of the Store Manager or designee.

9. A working knowledge of the methods and practices of supervision and the ability to carry them out.

10. A working knowledge of pricing, marking, merchandising, displaying and preparing donated items for sale and the ability to apply that knowledge.

Experience and Training:

1. High School Graduate or Equivalent

2. Business experience in retail sales/, or

3. Experience that enables an individual to effectively manage, oversee and operate a thrift store, effectively interact, work with and supervise staff, volunteers and students participating in the thrift store's day to day operations.

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must be currently in possession of, or have the ability to obtain (within 30 days), a valid driver’s license in State of residence

Physical Demands:

While performing this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, handle or lift objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, and kneel. Most activities involve repetitive upper-body movement and bending. The employee must, on occasion, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This is a “hands-on” leadership position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
