Job Title: GED, Adult Education, ESL Instructor
Salary Index: Part Time Contracted Position
Terms: 10 month, paid in 12 monthly installments, non-benefited position
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 8:00 am-2:30 pm
Reports To: Family Literacy Coordinator
SUMMARY:
The GED and Adult Education Instructor partners with Families Learning Together and Adult Education to serve as tutor and support role under the direction of the Family Literacy Coordinator and lead teacher. This position serves families in Fluvanna County.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Plan, organize and provide instruction in core skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening ,math) based on college and career readiness adult education standards in the context of GED content areas: social studies, science, math, and language arts
- Integrate employability skills including computer skills into instruction.
- Help students develop career pathway goals and plans.
- Evaluate student learning and develop instructional strategies and individualized learning plans to meet learning goals.
- Provide instruction that is consistent with TJACE@PVCC’s instructional program.
- Provide a supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility.
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
- Administer pre and post assessments.
- Maintain complete and accurate records at each class.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and experience in teaching core skills and specific subject matter required with adult education experience and graduate degree preferred.
Valid Virginia Teaching license preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, teachers, and school board.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Hold a valid Virginia Driver's license.
Hold a valid Virginia Teaching license (preferred).
