Job Title: Clinical Director

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or a related field.
  • Independent, unrestricted LADC-1 license in the state of Massachusetts
  • CPR certification or ability to complete training and obtain certification required
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • At least 2 years' experience in treatment settings for substance use disorders. Strong knowledge of dual diagnosis treatment, the substance use disorder treatment continuum, related services and community resources.
  • Naloxone/Narcan training or ability to complete training required

Key Responsibilities:

The CSS Clinical Director works collaboratively with the Program Director and Medical Director to provide direct care to patients and is responsible for maintaining the unit census and reviewing and logging incoming referrals ensuring that patients meet CSS criteria and medical necessity.

The Clinical Director is also responsible for providing direct individual and group supervision to all counseling staff, recovery specialist, care coordinators, interns, trainees and other staff as needed.

The Clinical Director reviews and approves assessments and treatment plans. Participates in treatment planning and aftercare services supports while helping staff to develop the skills to effectively treat co-occurring disorders and trauma.

This position is also responsible for ensuring that all documentation is completed in a timely manner and is consistent with the regulations and standards established by the Joint Commission and state and federal regulatory bodies.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Direct clinical oversight of all clinical staff, Clinicians, Care Coordinators, and Recovery Specialists within the CSS unit.
  • Collaborate and foster a strong partnership with all Medical and Nursing staff including Behavioral Health providers, Psychiatrists and Psychiatric nurses; hospitalists and primary care physicians to ensure patient satisfaction and high quality behavioral health care and substance use services.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director on program design implementation, policies/procedures that promote patient centered care coordination, planning and delivery of services.
  • Develop evidence-based clinical treatment programming and monitors the delivery of services ensuring compliance with standards of practice and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee and/or directly supervise the process for patient admissions, case assignments, discharges and referral to treatment.
  • Oversee quality assurance and conducts routine reviews of patient records to assure appropriate assessment, treatment planning, service delivery, timely recording of services and data collection.
  • Review and approve assessments and treatment plans.
  • Provide guidance in discharge planning to counselors and care coordinators.
  • Review documentation requesting additional units/extensions to ensure proper justification for the services based on medical necessity.
  • Lead psychoeducational, therapy and recovery-oriented client groups and provide individual counseling sessions as needed.
  • Participate in daily service utilization meetings and have a lead role in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Participate in staff/supervision meetings and attend related professional development sessions/trainings.
  • Assist the Program Director in scheduling clinical and non-clinical staff ensuring proper coverage based on BSAS standards and standards from other regulatory bodies.
  • Provide on-call support.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, support, and training to direct reports, and ensure their timely performance evaluation.
