Job Description Location & Work Availability: This position is Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote), based at our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. Job Summary: The Sr Product Quality Engineer - Brakes will lead quality engineering initiatives for our brake product line, ensuring products meet or exceed customer expectations and regulatory requirements. This role involves developing and implementing quality control processes, conducting root cause analyses, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on financial metrics related to product quality, including cost of quality and warranty expenses, and recommending actions to reduce costs and improve profitability. Key Responsibilities: Quality Control and Improvement: Develop and implement quality control processes for brake products, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and reliability. Root Cause Analysis: Conduct thorough investigations of product defects and failures, utilizing tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and 8D problem-solving methodologies to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless integration of quality standards throughout the product lifecycle. Financial Metrics Monitoring: Monitor and analyze financial metrics related to product quality, including cost of quality, warranty claims, and returns. Provide regular reports to senior management on quality-related financial performance. Cost Reduction Initiatives: Identify and recommend actions to reduce quality-related costs, such as process improvements, supplier quality enhancements, and defect reduction strategies. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all brake products comply with relevant industry regulations and standards, including those set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and corrective actions. Prepare detailed reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies as required. Certifications, Experience, and Education: Certifications: None Experience: Minimum of 5 years in product quality engineering, with at least 3 years focused on automotive braking systems. Proven experience in managing quality-related financial metrics and implementing cost reduction initiatives. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.; OR equivalent combination of experience and education. ASQ CQE certification or similar a plus. Skills: STONG automotive knowledge. The ideal candidate has performed complex mechanical/electrical repairs on car and light truck platforms. Must be comfortable communicating with automotive repairs shops (Service Advisors and Repair Technicians) to obtain knowledge on specific part defects. STRONG knowledge of OEM and aftermarket automotive products. Proficiency in designing, executing, and interpreting automotive brake part testing. Strong knowledge of quality engineering principles and methodologies. Proficiency in statistical analysis and quality tools (e.g., Minitab, Six Sigma). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment. Familiarity with automotive industry regulations and standards.
