What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEMPEST Technician position at advance programs?
Technician Trainee – Will train to conduct Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Material/Facility Attenuation and TEMPEST testing using an approved test plan to applicable government standards. Applicant should have the following basic skills:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB REQUIREMENTS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Knowledge of typical RF lab test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Receivers, Antennas, Amplifiers, Multi-meters, etc.)
- Ability to read and understand schematics and technical manuals.
- Read and understand the test plan including test setup, test modes, test messages, and test monitors.
- Install the Equipment Under Test (EUT) in the shielded enclosure in accordance with the test plan and current Test Standard.
- Work with customer to verify that the EUT is operational in all test modes.
- Verify that the detection system test equipment is in calibration and that it is operating correctly.
- Will train to perform test setup ambient measurements and detection system sensitivity measurements.
- Be able to maintain test project log-book and data sheets.
- Conduct the test in accordance with the approved test plan and the current test standard as specified in the SOW, quote, and PO.
- Graph the test results using lab software.
- Record the test results and report the results to the Lead Engineer.
- Assist the Lead Engineer in performing EUT modifications, i.e. install filters, electronic components, shielding, etc. as necessary and verify that the EUT modifications perform as required.
- Assist the Lead Engineer in preparing the Test Plan and Test Report as necessary.
- Attend engineering meetings as required.
- Able to use PC and be familiar with Microsoft Office software and tools.
- Some travel may be required (minimal).
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a U.S. SECRET Security Clearance.

Note: Can train proper candidate as EMC/TEMPEST Tester. Chance for rapid advancement if candidate can achieve US Government TEMPEST Certification. Former military candidates should have technical/repair, SIGINT, COMSEC or INFOSEC knowledge.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two year college, technical school or military training; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to reduce data using RF conversion and correction factors to calculate final measurements (Voltage, current and power measurements). Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
