ABS's corporate office and manufacturing facility is located in Wallace, MI and it has state of the art fabrication, machining, and panel building facilities. We are looking for a SHIFT SUPERVISOR - 2ND SHIFT to join our production team. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically-minded individual with knowledge of welding and manufacturing processes who can utilize the company's ERP/computer system to solve problems and enjoys leading in a collaborative team environment.

Position Overview: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the production demands are met while adhering to all ABS policies and procedures. This will be accomplished by working directly with the production management staff to coordinate, assign and track work orders while leading teams to complete quality work efficiently, safely and according to schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Production Manager, Production Scheduler, and Production Coordinator to ensure all tasks are being assigned and completed efficiently and according to schedule
  • Communicate scheduled tasks to employees and monitor progress
  • Ensure team members complete tasks in accordance with quality, production and safety standards
  • Develop and utilize a detailed understanding of the company's quality system, production tracking system, ERP system, bills of materials, and job routings
  • Trouble-shoot and resolve problems as necessary; communicate appropriately with affected team members and departments
  • Serve as a resource to help team members be successful in their roles; assist them to remove barriers to their success
  • Understand the responsibilities and functions for all supervised positions to sufficiently coach team members in those roles; perform functions of those roles as necessary, depending upon training, skills, and education required
  • Perform inventory functions as needed to ensure production flow
  • Review nightly efficiency report on a daily basis and address any issues as they arise
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with company policies and procedures

Supervisory Responsibility: Yes

Lead Skills & Qualifications:

  • Forklift and aerial lift experience preferred, ability to become certified within 30 days required
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Knowledge of measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, and tape measures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication
  • Use of logic and reasoning in daily decision making and problem solving
  • Highly organized with attention to detail; able to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and Word
  • Understanding of bills of materials, routings, and general manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to learn and understand computer software as related to manufacturing processes

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing setting required
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with OSHA safety requirements preferred
