General Purpose
Employees in this job are responsible for assisting with planning, coordinating and performing general maintenance work to maintain the building, grounds and equipment. This includes making repairs and performing related work as required.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· Maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery, consisting of mechanical and electrical equipment.
· Performs corrective and preventative maintenance to equipment.
· Works with motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, roller chain/sprockets, conveyors, powered tools, forklifts, cranes and batch plant equipment.
· Locates sources of problems by observing equipment in operation; listening and watching for problems.
· Removes defective parts and/or equipment.
· Performs welding.
· Assists in the installation of new production equipment/forms.
· Troubleshoots mechanical breakdowns.
· Fabricates parts for repairs and machine upgrades.
· Inspects drives, motors, and belts; checks fluid levels, replaces filters and performs other maintenance actions.
· Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
· Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, electrical outlets, fixtures, and switches.
· Assemble, install and/or repair pipe systems and plumbing fixtures; clear clogged plumbing fixtures.
· Performs routine inspections of equipment.
· Records maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
· Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
· Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
· Purchases maintenance supplies.
· Assists with snow removal.
Education and Training
High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
· Working knowledge of preventative and minor maintenance practices and repair.
· Intermediate skills and safety knowledge in the areas of electrical and plumbing.
· Must be able to operate various hand and power tools.
· Must be able to perform heavy manual labor.
· Must be able to maintain basic reports and records.
· Must be able to safely and effectively operate tools and equipment used in the maintenance of building, equipment and grounds.
· Must be able to run, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment such as forklifts and scissors lifts.
· Must be dependable, reliable, and responsible.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
· Employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
· Employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places.
· Employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals.
· Employee is exposed to risk of electrical shock.
· The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to loud.
· Must have multi limb coordination; able to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down.
· Job requires frequent standing and walking.
· Job requires frequent kneeling, crouching and squatting.
· Job requires occasional crawling, laying on back and/or stomach and climbing and/or balancing.
· Job requires frequent reaching above shoulder level.
· Job requires frequent bending of the waist, head, neck and wrists.
· Job requires frequent grasping and fine manipulation.
· Job requires frequent transportation of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
