Job Summary: The Building Automation Controls Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting building automation systems (BAS) used to control and monitor heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, security, and other systems within commercial, industrial, or residential buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation & Commissioning:

  • Install and set up building automation systems, including controllers, sensors, and communication networks.
  • Configure and integrate control systems for HVAC, lighting, security, and other building systems.
  • Perform system start-ups, diagnostics, and ensure all components are functioning properly.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct routine maintenance on BAS, including calibrating sensors, cleaning equipment, and updating software.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to HVAC, lighting, security, and other control systems.
  • Repair and replace faulty components or wiring in building automation systems.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of field installation and service performed, parts used, and system updates.
  • Provide clients with detailed reports and maintenance logs to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Work with other trades and contractors, such as electricians and HVAC technicians, to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Communicate with engineers or project managers regarding system design and installation requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in programming and configuring building automation software and hardware.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring, network communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.), and control systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
