Duties
- Review and process authorization requests for medical services and procedures in a timely manner.
- Communicate with healthcare providers to gather necessary documentation and clarify information related to authorization requests.
- Verify patient eligibility and benefits through insurance portals and systems.
- Utilize knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding to accurately assess authorization requirements.
- Maintain detailed records of all authorization requests, approvals, and denials in the medical office system.
- Collaborate with the billing department to resolve any discrepancies related to authorizations.
- Stay updated on changes in managed care policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers throughout the authorization process.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred but not necessary.
- Familiarity with managed care systems and processes is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and its application in the authorization process.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals, patients, and insurance representatives.
- Experience handling medical records is a plus and other medical office duties.
