Purpose:
The Drafter is responsible for creating accurate technical drawings and plans for fabrication, construction and installation projects. Collaborating closely with engineers, Project Managers, and field teams, the Drafter ensures that all designs align with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements. This role requires proficiency in CAD software, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical data into precise, buildable plans.
Responsibilities:
Drafting & Design – Develops detailed 2D and 3D drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, etc.), prepares fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings based on project specifications, ensures accuracy and completeness of all drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications, revises drawings as needed based on engineering changes or project updates.
Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with engineers, Project Managers, and fabricators to ensure designs are feasible and align with project needs, interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and schematics to create clear and accurate drawings, communicates with field teams to address any drawing-related questions or clarifications.
Standards & Compliance – Adheres to industry standards, codes, and Company drafting guidelines, ensures all designs comply with applicable regulations and safety requirements, maintains an organized archive of drawings, ensues version control and accessibility.
Quality Control & Continuous Improvement – Reviews and verifies drawings for accuracy and completeness before submission, identifies potential design issues and proposes solutions to enhance efficiency and quality, stays updated on the latest drafting technology, software, and best practices.
Other – Other duties, roles and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit.
Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
Knowledge of fabrication, construction, or mechanical systems is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and or carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
Primarily office-based, requiring extended periods of computer use in a seated position for prolonged periods of time.
Occasional visits to job sites or fabrication shops to verify dimensions or collaborate with field teams.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in drafting or technical drawing.
Experience with BIM modeling (if applicable) is a plus.
Familiarity with industry codes and standards (ANSI, ASME, AWS, etc.).
