Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Global Trade Compliance Manager to lead the company’s global import/export compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable trade regulations, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and customs requirements. This high-impact role will oversee trade compliance operations across multiple sites, serve as a key partner to executive leadership, and help shape the future of AIS’s global trade and regulatory strategy.

The ideal candidate combines technical regulatory expertise with strategic vision and operational execution, enabling seamless global trade while mitigating risk and ensuring compliance excellence.


We would prefer this position to be on-site in Coeur D'Alene Idaho but will entertain a Hybrid role from a candidate in the following States: Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, and Texas. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee global import and export compliance programs across all AIS locations, ensuring adherence to ITAR, EAR, OFAC, CBP, and other applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all global trade compliance matters, including classification, licensing, screening, auditing, and investigations.
  • Develop and implement company-wide trade compliance policies, procedures, training programs, and internal control frameworks.
  • Manage product jurisdiction and classification (HTS, ECCN, USML, Schedule B) in collaboration with engineering, supply chain, and legal teams.
  • Oversee license applications, technical data exports, and compliance with license conditions.
  • Lead global audits, self-assessments, and internal investigations; prepare voluntary disclosures as needed.
  • Monitor global regulatory developments and proactively assess the impact of trade regulations on AIS business operations.
  • Interface with government agencies (e.g., BIS, DDTC, CBP) and external legal counsel as required.
  • Support cross-border M&A activities, technical transfers, and new market entry from a compliance perspective.
  • Coordinate with logistics, procurement, engineering, and operations to ensure compliance is embedded into daily processes and systems.
  • Supervise and mentor trade compliance personnel across sites, ensuring consistent practices and professional development.
  • Oversee denied party screening, embargo checks, and anti-boycott compliance activities.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for ERP/MRP systems (e.g., export flags, license tracking, documentation compliance) and support integration with compliance tools such as OCR or Visual Compliance.
  • Lead import/export documentation reviews, including commercial invoices, packing lists, airway bills, and country of origin declarations.
  • Drive global awareness and accountability for trade compliance through training, guidance, and cross-functional collaboration.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Law, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field; advanced degree or certification (e.g., CES, CCS, CUSECO) preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, preferably in a regulated manufacturing or technology environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC, U.S. Customs Regulations, and the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR).
  • Demonstrated experience managing global compliance programs, investigations, and government communications.
  • Strong understanding of product classification, licensing, and compliance recordkeeping.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics SL, SAP, Oracle) and compliance tools (e.g., OCR, DECCS, ACE, Visual Compliance).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to operate independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global organization.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined under U.S. export regulations.
