What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Shipfitter position at Advanced Integrated Technologies?
AIT, LLC is actively seeking talented Marine Shipfitters. Candidate must have experience in structural fabrication, installation, theory and specific experience in the assembly, modification, layout, fabrication, repair and installation of plates, shapes, and pipes to be used to form a part of a structural assembly in connection with ship alteration and repair.
DUTIES:
- Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, for example plates, bulkheads, and frames, and braces them in position within hull of ship for riveting or welding
- Lay out blueprints, checking and fitting materials, tack welding of small assemblies, aluminum and steel foundations and outfitting items
- Lay out position of parts on metal, working from blueprints or templates and using scribe and hand tools.
- Position parts in hull of ship, assisted by a rigger
- Mark location of holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting.
- Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members, for example doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.
- Install structural outfit items, doors, ladders, foundations
- Align parts in relation to each other, using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
- Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts
- Shop and field fabrication
- Adhere to industry codes, regulations, and specifications
- Tack welding
- Install simple systems without templates and blueprints
- Read and understand the Chemist and Competent Persons reports and determine if job sites, particularly those involving combustible material, are safe for personnel and hot work
- Other duties as assigned
- Understand and act upon instruction
- Work independently to complete responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years shipboard Shipfitting experience required
- Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Shipfitting trade
- Must be able to work effectively with others
- Must be able to comprehend complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches includes weld symbols, material types, datum, and reference lines.
- Ability to use Work Packages and Drawings to plan and execute work
- Ability to use Molded Lines and Ship Reference Lines to execute required work
- Ability to Erect, Set, and Makeup Complex-shaped Shell Plates
- Must have regular, reliable attendance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
- Must be DBIDS eligible.
- Must be familiar with Navy Standard items.
TOOL REQUIREMENTS:
Trade associated tools are expected to be provided and maintained by the employee.
SALARY:
Starting $25-$34, based on experience
