Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Information Technology or related disciplines and 3 years of relevant experience.
Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience with a degree, 6 years’ experience without a degree.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Communications and Outreach Division (COD) manages the S&T intranet site; the public-facing S&T website; the COD SharePoint site; and communicates key messaging via email (MS Outlook, GovDelivery/Granicus) and social media channels.
The Web Content Manager is responsible for updating and maintaining the content of the public-facing website. This includes front-end content authoring (creating, editing, and updating) customer approved content using the Drupal Content Management System (CMS). Candidates for this position will coordinate the development and placing of new content, including text, photos, graphics, video, and audio in consultation with COD clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Web content management—front-end content authoring, including creating and updating web pages using the content authoring role in Drupal CMS.
- HTML—knowledge of HTML to enhance CMS functionality, trouble shoot pages and develop web page layouts.
- Google Analytics to generate reports of web page performance, including tracking site performance metrics, analyzing web statistics, and providing recommendations to improve the reach and effectiveness of the website.
- 508 Compliance—coordinate with the COD 508 compliance team to ensure artifacts have been reviewed and remediated prior to being posted to the S&T external-facing website. Content includes publications, reports, fact sheets, infographics, graphics, video, and audio.
- Graphic design—must have hands on experience and knowledge of typography, color, web page-layout design, UX design, and placing images.
- Reviews site functionality, initiates corrective action and recommends user interface enhancement based on User Experience (UX) design methodologies.
- Detail-oriented—reviews / edits web content against client requests to ensure accuracy and readability before publishing.
- Ensures plain language and proper branding of all web content.
- Reviews / analyzes web content for opportunities to improve content, information architecture, taxonomies and layout.
- Update text, graphics and multimedia materials, such as slideshows and other materials and manage prominent web content and promotional features to ensure freshness and relevance.
- Ensure that web content reflects logical, sequential organization; it is grammatically correct, uses proper syntax, spelling and punctuation, and conforms to publication style and format.
- Customer focused on working with staff across disciplines to develop and place engaging web content.
- Develop and maintain a taxonomy drawn from content objectives and ensure all website pages are tagged with relevant keywords and themes.
- Write and update web processes and procedures as requested.
- Develop and execute a digital marketing strategy in coordination with COD staff.
- Maintain current knowledge and training in relevant technologies as needed.
- Participate in special projects as required.
Required knowledge and skills:
Front-end web content authoring and design using Drupal CMS; HTML; Adobe Photoshop; Google Analytics, writing and editing skills.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
